About Chief Blankenship
Brent Blankenship is the Chief of Police for the City of Newnan. He is originally from Chamblee, GA and a graduate of Chamblee High School. After high school Chief Blankenship attended LaGrange College, where he earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Biology and played for the LaGrange College baseball team. He has continued his education and certifications in the criminal justice field and is in pursuit of his Master’s Degree. Chief Blankenship has been in Law Enforcement since 1998 and with the City of Newnan since 1999. He has served in the Patrol Division, the Bicycle Patrol Unit, and the Traffic Unit. He was promoted to Detective Sgt. in 2004 with the Criminal Investigation Division. In 2018 he was promoted to Lieutenant over Professional Standards and Certification where he handled Internal Affairs Investigations, Background Investigations and oversaw the process of State Certification.
On July 1, 2021, he was named Newnan’s Chief of Police. He is a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor for general courses and has completed his supervision and management training through POST. He is active in the community and completed the state-required classes and training to earn his community coaching certification. He has assisted the Smokey Road Middle School Football program as an Assistant Coach from 2016 – 2022 and was part of the 2021 Middle School Championship Team. One of his greatest passions is working and coaching youth athletes. He has assisted with or led numerous teams in recreation leagues as well as the travel sports associations since 2004 in the Newnan and Coweta County area and throughout the state coaching football, basketball and baseball. The sportsmanship, teamwork and discipline traits that come from being a part of a team are traits in which Chief Blankenship believes in.
Chief Blankenship is married and has two sons. One is currently in College at Toccoa Falls Christian College where he is in pursuit of his degree in sports management and plays for the Toccoa Falls College baseball team. His other son is a student at Newnan High School where he participates in the Newnan High School Concert Band. He also has two dogs, Wrigley a miniature schnauzer named after Wrigley Field and Chubb a black lab/pointer mix named after the great UGA running back Nick Chubb.
Other hobbies that he enjoys is camping, outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing, sporting events, especially the Georgia Bulldogs and spending time with his family and friends.
