About Chief Blankenship
The Newnan Police Department is headed by Chief Brent Blankenship.
Chief Blankenship has been serving the Newnan Police Department since 1999. Throughout his career, he has worked in the Patrol Division, the Bicycle Patrol Unit, and the Traffic Unit. He was promoted to Detective Sgt. in 2004 with the Criminal Investigation Division. In 2018 he was promoted to Lieutenant over Professional Standards and Certification where he handled Internal Affairs Investigations, Background Investigations and did oversee the State Certification process. On July 01, 2021, he was promoted to the Chief of Police. Chief Blankenship is a graduate of LaGrange College, where he earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree. He is a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor for general courses and has completed his supervision and management training through POST. Chief Blankenship is very active in the community and even completed the state-required classes and training to earn his community coach certification. After doing so he has assisted the Smokey Road Middle School Football program as an Assistant Coach since 2016. Chief Blankenship has also been involved in numerous programs within the community during his service and has worked with children and coached with the recreation department and other sanctions since 2004. Chief Blankenship believes in teamwork and community connection. A phrase that many may hear him say is, “Strive for Perfection and you will Achieve Excellence.”
