Cynthia Jenkins


Cynthia Jenkins has served on the Newnan City Council since 2004 and served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2006 to 2020. Ms. Jenkins is a Coweta County native, educated in the Coweta County School System, and is a graduate of East Coweta High School.

Ms. Jenkins is a Georgia Tech graduate, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. She received post-graduate studies earning a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University.

Ms. Jenkins currently serves as the CEO of Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity, an operated affiliate of Habitat for Humanity that builds and repairs homes in Clayton, Henry, and Fayette counties in South Metro Atlanta.

Since being elected, she has championed youth participation in the governing process by spearheading the Newnan Youth Council's formation. She was instrumental in getting Newnan enrolled as a participant in the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing, which led to the creation of the Newnan Urban Redevelopment Authority, and developed a plan to facilitate more affordable housing opportunities in Newnan. She has also worked with the Chalk Level Community to obtain property and build a new community recreation center to serve residents on the east side of Newnan, now known as the Howard Warner Boys and Girls Club which opened in 2016.

She has been a member of several professional associations and organizations, including membership in the National Association of Minority Architects, the American Institute of Architectural Students, the National Forum for Black Public Administrators, the Georgia Community Development Association, and even served as a speaker for the National Congress of Community Economic Development. Locally, she served on the Southeastern Assistance in Healthcare Board, Coweta Board of Health, Community Action for Improvement Board, and the COBRAS Cheer Coach.

Ms. Jenkins has been recognized for her philanthropy and community service efforts over the years.

She was named one of Coweta's Top Influencers by the Newnan Times-Herald in 2020. In 2018, she was recognized by the Coweta Community Foundation as the Coweta Woman of the Year - as well as many other honors and recognitions over her years of service.

Ms. Jenkins currently serves on the Georgia Commission for Volunteerism and Service as a gubernatorial appointee, the Board of Directors for Piedmont Newnan Hospital, and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
